England should play more like City, says Stones

Manchester City defender John Stones says he thinks the England national side should play a similar style to that of the Sky Blues, saying that manager Gareth Southgate does poses the talent required within the country.

Guardiola’s men have been outstanding so far this season, winning all but one of their games and scoring 22 goals in the process. They have been heavily tipped for success this season, and are many’s favourites for the league title.

Stones, who is currently on international duty with England, says that the Three Lions have more than enough talent to replicate the form shown by City this season – hinting that he hopes to see more attacking play during their upcoming qualifiers.

“We have the players to do it,” said Stones.

“It is difficult to bring how you play in the Premier League into international football – it is so different.”

“But we are always striving to be better and there is a lot of likeness between how City play to international football, as with Tottenham and various other clubs.”

“To try to gel those things is difficult – I suppose that is where football is evolving. It is changing, it is not where it was 20 years ago.”

“As long as England win and keep clean sheets and keep bettering themselves every year – and hopefully making the nation proud – that is all that matters.”

“That we keep making steps forward and keep progressing and trying to do our best for ourselves, our families and the nation.”
